L'Ingratitude - translated by Sue Lonoff (Harvard)

This is the link to the full text of Charlotte Brontë's homework in The London Review of Books. Perhaps it should be published in the future as a little booklet with illustrations...

Thank you for bringing that to the attention of your readers. I agree- what a delightful little publication the story would make. Perhaps all 'les devoirs' could be put into one book.
Your item prompted me to think about 'Le Chat' and my favourite 'Le Papillon' both by Emily.I seem to recall that Charlotte said that 'Ellis' was at her best as an essayist. Yes, they are good, but thinking as an Emilyphile- maybe 'Currer' was a little envious of the masterpiece which is 'Wuthering Heights'!

All the French writings have been published - 'The Belgian Essays' edited by Sue Lonoff. I couldn't agree more with you about Charlotte's opinion of 'Wuthering Heights' - I have always felt that she was patronising towards Emily.
